Birth-Long story not so short
We are proud to announce our new arrival on Sept 5, 2007 at 5:50pm...Baby Jaxton Travis Van Orden...He weighed 6 lbs 10 oz and was 21 in long. Let me tell you all about his birth it was hectic. First off I had problems throughout my whole pregnancy with a condition called Polyhydramnios, which is when your amniotic fluid level is above the normal range of 5 to 20. At one point around 31 weeks my level was at a 29 in which I had to go see a specialist in Ogden due to possible complications with either me or the baby. Because of this condition I had to see the doctor every week for weekly Ultrasounds and Non Stress Tests because at this point they werent certain when i would go into labor considering also at this point I was having constant contractions and starting to dialate. The night before my appt with the specialist I had a blessing which seemed to be working because every week after that my level was starting to go back down and everyone thought that i could possibily make it to my due date on the 21st of Sept. Everything was fine Until my appt on the 4th when he did the regular ultrasound and discovered that my level had jumped from the normal 19 I had the week before to a whopping 25(which is a bunch for 1 week). My doctor looked at me said i'll be right back and left the room for what seemed to be forever. When he got back he hands me a blue piece of paper by now I am freakin out because I dont know whats going to happen or if there is something wrong with my baby. So I look at the blue paper through water filled eyes and I see that it is a number to the hospital and a time of 7 pm. As I am reading this my doctor is explaining to me that he is inducing me that night and these are my instructions to call the hospital so they can get a room ready for me. I left the doctors and called my husband and when he got home we felt like chickens with our heads cut off we felt like we still had so much stuff to do before the baby gets here and now its time and we arent ready. Anyways I called the hospital and they finally got me in at 10 pm. When I arrived the plan was that I was supposed to get cervical dialating pills and pitocin but after they hooked me up to the monitors they discovered I was already in labor and dialating by myself so all they did was hook me up to pitocin. I was on that until 3:30 am when they decided it was time to break my water and man that was like Mount Rushmore lol. I did the natural thing until 5:30 when the nurse asked if I want an epideral and I couldnt handle it anymore so I got one. So I stayed numb and in labor for a total of 18 hrs until the nurse let me start pushing. I pushed for 2 hrs and nothing was happening his head was coming down wrong and wouldnt push past my pelvic bone. The doctor came at this point and started getting c-section papers ready just in case but decided we should try one more time to see if we can get him out. At this point I have oxygen on and im exhausted from pushing and just want to give up but travis's dad and my doctor decide to give me a blessing real quick. So then I get this last burst of energy and start pushing and the doctor hooks the vaccum to his head and pulls and all of a sudden out comes his head. The doctor discovered his cord was around his neck so he quickly cut it and with one more push he pops out and I have a beautiful baby boy. He had problems breathing and had a slight fever due to me getting a uteran infection while in labor so he had to go to the nursery for a few hrs but then I finally got him at about 9 pm on the 5th.
